More than 100 gallons of sewage seeped into a Buford-area creek Thursday morning, Gwinnett County officials said.
According to information released by the county's Department of Water Resources, the spill was reported around 11:30 a.m. on Duncan Ives Drive, a residential street not far from the intersection of Sardis Church and Friendship roads. It was caused by "boring by an independent communications company contractor."
The spill was stopped within about 30 minutes, officials said, but approximately 141 gallons "entered an unnamed tributary of Sherwood Creek."
Workers "raked the area and spread lime" and notified residents, officials said. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division was notified.
