Bugs, mold and lack of soap were issues for an Atlanta pizza place when a health inspector surprised the restaurant Wednesday.
Rocco's New York Pizza 2, located off Ponce De Leon Avenue near Freedom Parkway, received a failing score of 54. The inspector was there because of a complaint.
Some of the 23 violations included utensils on the ground and no soap or hot water at the sink for handwashing along with "grease collected in a pan with heavy mold growing on it" and "small flying insects throughout the facility," according to the inspector's report. The owner was doing the pest control for the facility themselves, which is a violation.
There will be a mandatory follow-up within ten business days and the restaurant has to make an appointment with the health department for an intervention hearing, which will also provide education and training.
A manager was not immediately available for comment Friday.
The restaurant passed its first inspection Feb. 5, which would be a few days after it opened, according to a Facebook post from the original Rocco's location.
The second Rocco's, located in Decatur, also had issues.
That Rocco's was temporarily shut down earlier this month when it failed a routine inspection. That location also had problems with insects and dirty surfaces for food.
The Decatur location reopened the next day when it received a score of 83.
