The Milton City Council has approved a $556,827 construction services agreement with Prime Contractors Inc. to build new storage buildings for the Public Works and Fire-Rescue departments.

Because of the city’s growth, Public Works needs a large storage area and a place where it can work on equipment out of the weather; while the Fire Department inherited its present facilities from Fulton County and needs a place to store supplies and equipment, according to a staff report to the council.

The new Public Works maintenance building, with two roll-up overhead doors and a restroom, break area and storage, would be located at the existing Public Works yard on the Hickory Flat Fire Station property, staff said.

The Fire Department storage building, with a bay for storing supplies and support trailers or other smaller vehicles, would be located next to Fire Station 43 in the Birmingham area, staff said.
