The City Council on Dec. 4 voted to pay $5 million for the property, at 1785 Dinsmore Road, to preserve as public open space. City officials said a survey found the site is larger than anticipated – 139.79 acres versus 137.09 acres – while an appraisal returned a fair market value for the property of $6 million.
A Phase I environmental assessment found two areas of concern – storage areas for fuel and fertilizer. “The final report indicated that any environmental issues were below reportable quantities and could either be left in place or removed and disposed of if the area were redeveloped,” officials said.
“Park Temporarily Closed” signs will be placed at the entrances, and staff is looking at possible short-term options for the upcoming tennis and swim seasons. Long-term decisions will be addressed during the community planning process, officials said.
