Three National Park Service properties in metro Atlanta last year accounted for more than three-quarters of the economic impact of the 10 national parks in Georgia, an NPS study shows.
Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, near Marietta, was the state’s most lucrative in terms of visitor spending and jobs, with a cumulative economic benefit of $186.9 million. The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area near Sandy Springs came in second, at $169 million; and the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site in Atlanta came in third, at $58.2 million.
More than 7.5 million people visited Georgia’s 10 national parks in 2015, resulting in $387.1 million in visitor spending, 6,316 jobs and $546 million total cumulative benefit for the state economy.
