McDonough officials are proceeding with a study to determine appropriate water rates for customers who live outside the city limits.

Right now there are more than 300 residential customers who fit into that category, and they receive a savings compared to what the Henry County Water Authority charges, according to city officials. Some other municipalities, including the HCWA, already charge higher rates to customers who do not live within their boundaries. An informal survey compared rates in Griffin and Senoia as well as unincorporated Henry County, and city leaders will be commissioning an official study by an outside source in the very near future.

It was determined that a review of the issue is relevant because water bills alone do not cover every expense related to water service, as some tasks regarding water infrastructure are performed by the city’s fire and public works departments.
