The McDonough City Council voted Sept. 17 to purchase 90.2 acres along Hwy. 155 and Turner Church Road for the future expansion of the city’s water reservoir.
The vote came at the council’s regular meeting after an executive session. The cost for the land acquisition is $3,247,200 and the seller was named as TJW Enterprises, LLLP. Mayor Billy Copeland thanked the council for the action and called it “one of the boldest moves” the city has made, citing a 1987 decision by the city that led to the construction of a 330-million-gallon reservoir.
“Water is a precious commodity and we are looking to have plenty of it,” said Copeland. “We can’t imagine what it will be like in the next 30 or 40 years.”
