He held up a furnace filter so the teller couldn’t see his face, but the alleged bank robber didn’t count on an overhead surveillance camera.

The robbery happened shortly after 10 a.m. Monday to the Best Bank in the Kroger supermarket at 2325 Bethelview Road in Cumming, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

A man wearing a yellow or orange jacket with a stripe down its right side, a blue dress shirt and dark jeans, and wearing gloves and carrying a toolbox, walked up to the bank counter, held up the air filter and told a teller to give him money from the vault.

“He used the air filter to try to conceal his identity from the employees. I guess he didn’t see the camera,” said sheriff’s Investigator Matt Runion. “He did not produce or threaten to use a weapon during the robbery.”

The suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of money. He was last seen walking toward Bethelview and Canton Highway and is believed to have left the area in a vehicle.

Police described the man as Hispanic with a husky build, about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with noticeable acne scars and speaking without an accent.

Anyone who recognizes him or has information about the robbery is asked to contact Runion at 678-513-5864, or by calling 770-781-2200 or 770-781-3087 after hours. Tips can be left anonymously at the Sheriff’s Crimestoppers Tip Line, 770 888-7308.
