The Mable House Barnes Amphitheater in Mableton will receive a new sound system due to an Oct. 8 vote by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.

For $253,587, the contract has been awarded to the low bidder - Atlanta Productions, Inc. doing business as Music Matters Production - to provide and install the sound system equipment, power distribution and related cabling.

Funding will come from the 2016 PARKS Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax Program.

No new maintenance or operational costs are associated with this project, resulting in a savings to the PARKS operational budget, said PARKS Director Jimmy Gisi.

This new sound equipment will support the musical and theatrical performances at the amphitheater - many requiring sophisticated house-provided sound amplification equipment and controls, he added.

To date, this equipment has been seasonally rented by the facility, Gisi said.

The useful life of the new equipment is expected to be 10 years, he added.

Gisi said the break-even point of owning the equipment versus renting will be reached in four to five years.

A part of Cobb’s Mable House Complex, 5239 Floyd Road, Mableton, the amphitheater is a mid-sized outdoor concert venue with covered and terraced uncovered seating.
