Decatur’s city commission and school board are holding a joint work session 6:30 p.m. Monday in the City Commission Meeting Room, 509 N. McDonough St.

This is the first of two joint sessions between the two bodies — the next one is in April — before the school system officially asks commissioners to place an $82 million general obligation bond on the November ballot.

City Schools Decatur is projecting, even with low growth and no annexation, that it will need $115.94 million for renovation and new construction projects over the next five years. The total cost for Decatur High alone is $48.97 million, and for Renfroe Middle $30.32 million, with the first phase of both projects scheduled to begin in spring.
