Johns Creek has posted a new form online where residents who want to remove trees can learn if they live within a protected area and need to first seek city permission.
Protected areas are the Chattahochee River Corridor (within 2,000 feet of the river), undisturbed stream buffers (within 50 feet of a stream), or where landscaping is required by zoning.
A resident can complete the form, giving his or her address, the location of the tree to be removed, the reason for tree removal and photos of the targeted tree. City staff will review the request and let the resident know if permission is granted.
The city says residents also should keep in mind that tree removal also may have to be approved by their homeowners association. Those with questions can contact a city planner at 678-512-3200.
