The Johns Creek City Council is moving ahead with a possible bridge restoration project that would connect it with its neighbor to the north.

The council Monday night signed off on an intergovernmental agreement with Fulton and Gwinnett counties, the city of Duluth and the National Park Service to start planning on a multi-use trail across the Chattahoochee River at the old Rogers Bridge. The project would include restoration of the structure that’s more tha 100 years old.

Some $500,000 in federal funding will be sought, with a $100,000 local match.

Council members also approved a $303,000 contract with Glosson Enterprises for installation of a half-mile stretch of sidewalk on Alvin Road between Haynes Bridge Road and Switchbark Lane, after numerous request from area residents.
