The Powder Springs City Council voted 4-1 Monday to spend $518,590 on renovations for the Historic Bodiford House, 4355 Marietta St. as the city’s new home for the Seven Springs Museum.
Opposed, Councilman Al Thurman said he was concerned about spending that much money, plus the $175,000 that was paid in June to acquire the nearly 100-year-old house of 3,600 square feet.
City Finance Director Diana Bellinger said the money comes from $150,000 in the fund balance as a one-time use; $150,000 from sale of city property on Florence Road at U.S. 278; $103,090 from the Cobb support services agreement; $54,500 from the general fund; $31,000 from the Austell Natural Gas franchise fees and $30,000 from insurance premium franchise fees.
Mayor Patricia Vaughn said The Macallan Group is expected to complete the project by June 1.
Now the museum is on Brownsville Road at the railroad tracks, which will be widened by Norfolk Southern.
