Henry County has made it easier to address community blight and to turn empty lots into new homes.

The county last week amended its Neighborhood Stabilization Program to allow for the demolition of blighted structures and to fund redevelopment of abandoned homes or demolished properties.

The NSP is designed to find housing that has been foreclosed or been abandoned for low-to-moderate income homebuyers. The NSP is funded by awards from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

“It is our hope that with the inclusion of these two eligible uses, we can continue our efforts with the Neighborhood Stabilization Program,” Community Development Director Shannon Sagnot told the Henry County Commission.

Sagnot told the commission 333 single-family units have been purchased through the NSP program and that all of the homes have been sold.
