The Gwinnett Board of Commissioners agreed to accept, if granted, a $84,888 grant for the Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention and Treatment Program from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. The grant will be used to help low-risk youth by focusing on prevention activities in the initial stages of justice system involvement. The grant is 100-percent funded by the CJCC with no county match.
According to documents filed by the program, the county’s at-risk juvenile population has grown by 8.8 percent, or 18,553, since 2006. This represents 9.6 percent, or 228,050 of Georgia’s at-risk youth population.
