Gwinnett commissioners approved $236,500 for implementation of a public safety notification and response system at the Gwinnett County Police 911 Center. The new system will allow for faster response time in the event of critical incidents at Gwinnett County Public Schools and Buford City Schools.

The system is part of an overall $5 million plan to improve safety at area schools. The system will allow schools to send emergency alerts with video surveillance instantaneously to police. The vendor, Risk Response Team Inc., will begin installation of the system this month for full operation in time for the 2015-2016 school year.

The project is funded by the 2014 SPLOST.
