Are you an amazing entrepreneur?
That’s what Gwinnett Chamber Economic Development wants to know, along with the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center.
The Amazing Entrepreneur Business Plan Competition gives current and aspiring small business owners a chance to prove their worth and win prizes in two categories — Established Businesses and Pre-Ventures
Those entering the Established Business category must own and manage a small business in Gwinnett County that is less than three years old as of April 1. For those budding entrepreneurs, the Pre-Venture category is open to Gwinnett County residents to submit ideas for businesses they have not started up just yet.
Contestants must enter business plan summaries, either for their existing business or for their vision of the business they want to own someday. The prize packages vary for each category, but winners can receive:
- Up to $5,000 cash to support their existing business
- Packages with consulting groups to create marketing plans
- Professional logo design
- Free accounting services
- Scholarship for UGA's GrowSmart program
- Passes to attend Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce workshops and summits
The idea behind the contest is to get current and prospective business owners thinking about the difficulties that accompany these ventures.
"All of the issues we ask you to address in our entry forms are related to challenges you will face as a business owner," the website says. "It helps to think them through and write them down."
The website also explains that winning submissions will include a quality business plan summary.
“They [the judges] are not looking for who has the cleverest product or who will make the most money,” the website says. “They are looking to see who did their homework when thinking through the challenges the business will face.”
There is no entry fee for the competition. All applicants in both categories must be at least 18 years old. The deadline to submit a business plan is 5 p.m. July 8. Click here to view the contest rules on the website.
