Grease, violation cause raw sewer spills in DeKalb

DeKalb County recently had to deal with four spills of raw sewer into its waterways in two days last week, according to county water reports.

A plumbing violation at a salon in the Gallery of South DeKalb on Candler Road caused the fourth blockage, which less than 500 gallons of sewage into Dole Creek last Monday .

Grease blockages on Tuesday created three spills, dumping 20,345 gallons of sewage into Crooked, Indian and North Peachtree creeks

DeKalb plans a $1.35 billion upgrade to its in water and sewer system to meet a federal Environmental Protection Agency consent decree.
