Col. Mark McDonough, head of the Georgia State Patrol, said troopers had some minor wrecks but there had only been one serious accident reported Wednesday morning. He said people had apparently “got the message” and were staying off the roads.

At 7:45 this morning, a tractor-trailer truck and two cars crashed on I-285 at Flat Shoals Road. The truck, which was hauling milk, went through a guard rail and down an embankment. He did not know what caused the crash but said only one person was hurt; he did not know the extent of the injuries.

McDonough said the other road incidents were “spin outs.”
