A new comprehensive ranking of health for nearly every county in America finds that Fulton County ranks No. 7 among 10 metro Atlanta counties and No. 25 among all Georgia counties.
The study of more than 20 health measures by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute found that Fulton's obesity rate, for example, is significantly lower than the statewide average: 22 percent in Fulton versus 29 percent for the state.
The study also found that the number of primary care doctors per capita is much lower than in the rest of the state: 970 people for each primary care physician versus 1,540:1 statewide. But the rate of violent crime is far higher in Fulton County than in the rest of the state: measured in reported crimes per 100,000, Fulton had 856 versus 385 for the state.
