Fulton County has renewed an agreement in which the Department of Health and Wellness provides routine health services to homeless students so they can enroll in Fulton County schools.
The Board of Commissioners recently approved a two-year memorandum of understanding in which Fulton schools will reimburse the Health Department for free and low-cost services to homeless youth.
To enroll in school, more than 1,500 homeless children in the Fulton schools must undergo vision, hearing, dental and nutritional screenings and receive immunizations, which must be documented, according to a board agenda item summary.
The school district’s homeless student liaison will identify students in need of services and refer them to the county Health Department, according to the agreement.
