Forsyth County voter registration numbers are on the rise, again, as voters registered to beat the deadline for the historically low-turnout, off-year election in November.

Voter registrations and elections supervisor Barbara Luth said the total of active and inactive voters eligible to cast ballots stood at 140,381 just before the Tuesday deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 7 election.

That’s up from 130,924 one year ago. Total voters in the city of Cumming, which will decide the mayoral and City Council Posts 1 and 2 races, reached 2,922. Registration in the District 26 special Ga. House race totaled 43,019. Luth said that while a number of residents registered in advance of the deadline, there was no noticeable surge, typical of an off-year election.

Advance voting in both the municipal and special election begins next week and runs through Nov. 3.
