The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners will hold three public hearings on proposed 2015 millage rates that will mean a higher tax bite for some.
The tentatively adopted rates have the maintenance and operations and fire millage rates unchanged at 4.812 and 1.975 mills respectively, but the proposed bond rate is 1.419 mills, up from 0.869 in 2014.
County officials said with an almost 10 percent increase in the tax digest, property taxes for M & O and fire will tentatively be 3.66 percent over a revenue-neutral rollback rate, and total collections will jump. The bond property tax hike will be more than 68 percent higher, reflecting debt service for the 2014 county transportation bond issue.
The public hearings are set for 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday and 6 p.m. July 16, all at the Forsyth County Administration Building, 110 E. Main St., Cumming. Final adoption may come that same night.
