State and local officials are scheduled to cut the ceremonial ribbon Oct. 5 to open a widened, 8-mile stretch of Ga. 400 from McFarland Parkway to just north of Ga. 20 in Forsyth County.

The ceremony comes less than a year since the groundbreaking for new Ga. 400 traffic lanes in Forsyth.

The project is a joint effort by Forsyth County – contributing about $34.5 million from a transportation bond issue approved by voters in November 2014 – and the Georgia Department of Transportation, which provided $13 million and is managing the work.

Construction continues on an additional northbound lane from just north of Ga. 20 to Ga. 369; that project is tentatively scheduled to be completed next spring. The additional southbound lane will be started soon afterward and is to open in mid-2018.

The ribbon-cutting is set for 10 a.m., Oct. 5, at the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority Park & Ride off Deputy Bill Cantrell Memorial Road, Cumming. After the ceremony, officials will convene a Forsyth County Transportation Summit at the Forsyth Conference Center at Lanier Technical College. Updates on transportation projects will be given.
