A former Fulton County deputy will spend 15 years in prison for killing a 22-year-old pimp.

Richard M. Jackson, 44, was sentenced Monday in Fulton County Superior Court in the July 2006 killing of Allen Griffin. Jackson was convicted of manslaughter Feb. 2.

Jackson fired several shots after a 17-year-old prostitute he solicited ran away from his vehicle behind the Skyview Apartments in southwest Atlanta. The teen was not injured but ran to tell Griffin, who was on his way to confront Jackson when he was shot. Griffin also had a gun and Jackson contended he shot him in self defense.

Officers arriving at the scene found Jackson hiding in bushes with a gun and arrested him.

Jackson resigned from the sheriff's office in 2008 following his indictment.

In addition to his prison sentence, Jackson will serve 10 years on probation following his release.
