The Fayette County Board of Commissioners has sent a letter to the Board of Education asking to explore the development of an equestrian center behind Inman Elementary School south of Fayetteville.

At the Sept. 28 commission meeting, Parks and Recreation Director Anita Godbee presented concept drawings of a horse park and trails that would occupy 99 acres, include trailer parking and hitching rails, and cost about $25,000 to set up. Chairman Eric Maxwell said the county is creating a presentation for the school board’s consideration, since the facility would require an intergovernmental agreement. Supporters want to diversify recreational opportunities, but Commissioner Charles Rousseau questioned the expense.
