Fayette County has approved funding to connect its municipal animal shelter to Peachtree City’s sewer system. The shelter, which was built in 1983, has a septic system whose two drain fields are repeatedly failing.

The Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 on Sept. 14 to spend $130,000 to install a sewer line that will solve the problem and potentially free up space for a possible shelter expansion if the county decides to also excavate the drain fields. The commission is asking the Peachtree City Water & Sewerage Authority to waive its connection fees as a goodwill cost-saving measure.
