The process for selecting members of Fayette County’s 19 authorities, boards and other committees has been refined by the Board of Commissioners.

The board voted 4-0-1 on July 13 to amend county policy to require that vacancies be advertised 90 days before a term expires. The commissioners may also appoint staff department heads as non-voting members of selection committees to gain relevant input. The new provisions also note that if a vacancy occurs with less than a year left in the term, the selection committee can choose a candidate to finish the term and still serve the next full successive term.
