After months of negotiation, Fayette County and Peachtree City have agreed on a new contract for future maintenance of Lake Peachtree. The county Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 Nov. 12 to accept the provisions approved by the Peachtree City Council Nov. 5.
Under the new Water Franchise Agreement, which replaces the original 1966 contract and its amendments, the county will operate the dam and spillway and give the city $2 million toward replacing the aging spillway in exchange for the right to continue to draw water from the reservoir.
The entities will share the cost of future dredgings. Commission Chairman Charles Oddo called the agreement “the best product for all communities.”
