Fayette County will not be installing a roundabout at the intersection of Antioch Road and Goza Road anytime soon.

The Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 on Thursday to suspend plans it made last year because a four-way stop intended as a temporary measure has significantly reduced accidents and injuries at the site. Transportation engineer Joe Robison said that since November 2017, there have only been three crashes at the site, compared to 31 crashes from 2014 to 2017.

Robison said a recent traffic study concluded that the four-way stop should suffice until 2036. Commissioner Eric Maxwell said he still favors installing the roundabout, especially since about $100,000 has already been spent on engineering plans.

But the other commissioners prefer to re-allocate SPLOST funds to other intersections needing improvement.
