The words “In God We Trust” will soon be displayed in the public meeting room of the Fayette County Board of Commissioners. The commission voted 5-0 Thursday to approve one of several proposed designs for the previously approved addition of the motto. The chosen design will have “In God We Trust” posted directly above the county seal on the wall behind the dais. Despite some public comment opposing the display, Commissioner David Barlow said the use of the motto is legally allowed based on a 1970 federal court ruling that said the wording does not violate First Amendment provisions against the establishment of religion.
