Avondale Estates announced its Ethics Board will hear a complaint filed against the city’s Board of Mayor and Commissioners 6:30 p.m. March 24 at the Avondale Estates City Hall, 21 North Avondale Plaza.

Local attorney Joe Mandarino’s asking for: voiding the December 2014 annexation of Stratford Green because the board was down one person. The complaint contends the BOMC shouldn’t conduct any business until a vacancy’s filled; delaying the March 17 special election for mayor (which will already have passed) because Stratford Green residents shouldn’t be allowed to vote; resignation of all city officials.

In a legal opinion made public earlier this week, City Attorney Bob Wilson wrote, “The core concept of the complaint—that the city’s legislative body is disabled by the resignation of a single official—is totally unsupported by law and frankly ridiculous.”

The Ethics Board is comprised of three persons serving five-year terms, and hasn’t met since March 2009.
