The City Council of East Point voted last month to address the issue of fallen leaves. The city’s leaf vacuum collection pilot program will start on Nov. 1.
The goal is to reduce leaf accumulation in the street and minimize the potential for clogged storm drains. From October to February, gathered or bagged leaves will be collected Monday through Friday in conjunction with the regular sanitation collection schedule. Bagging is recommended, but not required during this period.
From March through September, however, leaves must be bagged, bundled or containerized for pickup in conjunction with the regular sanitation collection schedule.
During these months, code enforcement will issue a “Notice of Violation” to residents failing to comply with bagging, bundling and containerizing requirements, which may include penalties or imposed fines for non-compliance.
