Dunwoody Public Works Director Michael Smith presented details of the five-year paving plan at this month’s city council meeting. A construction contract will accomplish three goals on Mount Vernon Road: replace the water main, pave the road, and install sidewalks, he said.

Bids for the project were more than $2 million with the county funding the water main work. The city will pay nearly $1 million for paving and sidewalk construction.

Construction on the project may begin in February on Mount Vernon Road from Ashford Dunwoody Road to Vernon Oaks Drive. It is expected to last six to eight months.

The city plans to spend more than $4 million on paving in 2015, said Smith. This included $1.8 million in funds leftover from 2014 and an additional $400,000 that council asked be added to the paving budget each year.
