Duluth’s hospital connector project design is almost complete, which tentatively keeps the city on schedule for construction in August. However, the Georgia DOT is now requiring an environmental site assessment of the Tannery property located within the project area.
Phase I environmental site assessment will look at property uses and history, and Phase II will test soil samples for potential hazardous materials. The results of the two studies are required prior to right of way acquisition.
If hazardous material is found to exist, the property owner will be required to clean it up prior to city acquisition, and/or negotiate the cost of clean up. Clark Patterson Lee will commence with the environmental assessment at a cost of $4,620 for Phase I and $ 11,900 for Phase II.
