The Duluth City Council voted Monday to approve a budget amendment authorizing the Duluth Police Department to purchase 59 body cameras. Cost of the body cameras and server to store the video recordings is approximately $60,000.

Purchase of body cameras had previously been approved for the 2016 budget, but the city and police department felt there was enough room in the current budget to allow the purchase to move forward now. Duluth Police said they feel the need for complete transparency during police activity warrants the purchase of body cameras right away.
