The director of the state’s judicial watchdog agency on Monday resigned his position, becoming the second top official at the agency to step down this year.

Mark Dehler, a Hiawassee attorney, has served as the Judicial Qualifications Commission’s executive director since Sept. 1. Before that, he was a special master for the Georgia Supreme Court, overseeing a State Bar of Georgia ethics complaint against House Speaker David Ralston. Dehler resigned that post to take the JQC job.

Dehler’s resignation was announced by Superior Court Judge Brenda Weaver, who chairs the commission.

“I am sorry to inform you that Mark is resigning as our executive director,” Weaver said in an email to commission members. ” … I am sure you join me in wishing him well. As chair, I certainly appreciate his assistance and guidance during this time period.”

Dehler will serve until Aug. 16, she said.

In April, attorney Lester Tate, citing politics, resigned as chairman of the judicial watchdog agency.
