The Snellville City Council is reactivating the once-dormant Development Authority of Snellville following a unanimous vote.

The move was made Monday to create a body with the same development powers as the Downtown Development Authority, but with the ability to work outside the designated downtown area.

Current members of the Snellville Downtown Development Authority will fill the positions as directors of the reinstated authority.

After the authority was reactivated, the mayor and council approved a measure directing the Development Authority to take title of the old police station on Lenora Church Road.

A committee to review the city charter was also created. It consists of City Attorney Tony Powell, councilmen Bobby Howard and Roger Marmol, former Mayor Emmett Clower, Executive Director of the Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity Melvin Everson, City Clerk Melisa Arnold, former Councilman and member of the city’s Planning Commission and Urban Redevelopment Agency Tod Warner and former Councilwoman Diane Krause.
