DeKalb police are pondering a ticket strike, according to posts on an unofficial law enforcement blog.

Channel 2 Action News reports police officers are considering a moratorium on ticket writing because some are upset over pay and benefits.

The blog, DeKalb Officers Speak, call for an all-out cessation of ticket writing. Most of the posts are anonymous, so it is not possible to determine if the comments are by DeKalb police officers.

One alleged officer writes, “I'm in and so is most of the people on my watch!”

A strike would hurt the county financially. During a 2010 slowdown which also had its genesis on the DeKalb Officers Speak blog, officers wrote 33 percent fewer tickets, reducing projected revenue by $5 million.

DeKalb police Chief William O’Brien told Channel 2 reporter Tony Thomas that any officer participating in a ticket strike may be punished.

“It is my belief that statements expressed on an unofficial law enforcement blog are those of a small group of individuals that do not represent the views or actions of the majority of the dedicated and hard working men and women of our department," said O'Brien.

"Furthermore, the department does not support nor will it condone any of our officers neglecting to perform their duties. Any officer identified that has or encourages engaging in such actions will face disciplinary action.”
