Two DeKalb County men have been arrested in connection with the death of a third man whose body was discovered as firefighters extinguished a brush fire in Social Circle, authorities said Friday.

Corey Thomas, 20, and Antonio Jones, 24, have been charged with the murder of Akili Jabari Stewart, according to a news release from the Social Circle Police Department and GBI.

The two agencies and the DeKalb County Police Department and Georgia State Fire Marshal’s office have been investigating Stewart’s death since March 30, officials said.

The 36-year-old victim’s body was found in a burning field late the night of March 29 near Ga. 278 and I-20. Preliminary autopsy results revealed that Stewart died of gunshot wounds.

A motive for the killing was not disclosed Friday.
