DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond along with county officials will celebrate a penny sales tax (SPLOST) transportation milestone: resurfacing completion of the first 100 miles of roads and streets in unincorporated DeKalb County.

The event is set for 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10 at Woodway Drive (eastbound) in the Hidden Hills Community of Stone Mountain. Those using GPS should set coordinates for 1816 Wynhurst Crossing, Stone Mountain. A ceremony scheduled for Jan. 31 was canceled because of bad weather.

“SPLOST is allowing us to pave … the bumpiest, most pothole-filled roads and streets in DeKalb and improve the quality of life for all who live, work and travel through the county,” said DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond last summer.

DeKalb County will receive an estimated $388 million in SPLOST revenue over the next six years to improve county roads, infrastructure, libraries, parks and public safety.
