A decision on increasing pay for 4,000 Cobb County employees was delayed Tuesday by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.
While supporting the pay raises, Commission Chairman Tim Lee said the decision should be made by the commissioners next year when the new chairman replaces him.
In January, Mike Boyce will take Lee’s place as chairman after defeating him in the July runoff by 64 percent of the vote.
Commissioners Bob Weatherford and Lisa Cupid said they would favor millage increases to provide more services that are expected by county residents.
Commissioner Bob Ott said he agreed with Lee’s delay since “the incoming chairman is responsible for producing a balanced budget.”
Disagreeing with Lee, Commissioner Lisa Cupid said the commissioners should make the decision this year on pay increases for county employees.
However, Lee said the pay increases would not go into effect until April 3, 2017, giving time for the new chairman to act.
“It’s not up to me to decide anymore,” Lee added.
Commissioner JoAnn Birrell was absent.
