Decatur annexation is dormant for now, its future possibly depending on proposed cities Tucker and LaVista Hills, which get voted on in November. “During the remainder of 2015,” Mayor Jim Baskett wrote in his official statement released late last week, “the Decatur City Commission will assess how, or if, we want to move forward on annexation issues in 2016.” City Manager Peggy Merriss said Wednesday she wouldn’t add to that. “For now I have plenty other work to do,” she said. “And for now there is nothing more to say.” Decatur’s annexation master plan unraveled in the final days of the General Assembly. Although the city quietly worked out an overlap with Together in Atlanta’s map, which included shopping centers at the Clairemont Avenue/North Decatur Road intersection, that western portion (on Decatur’s map) never got a legislative sponsor. The eastern portion was sponsored by state Rep. Karla Drenner (D-Avondale Estates), but didn’t get the required four signatures from the Senate.
