Decatur is holding a public input session on its comprehensive plan update 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Decatur Recreation Center, 231 Sycamore Street. This is the first of five sessions through June.
Wednesday’s topics are economic development, population growth and transportation.
“We want to address … how we retain and recruit diverse retail and service businesses to create economic vitality in Decatur’s commercial districts,” Planning Director Angela Threadgill wrote in an email to the AJC. “We’ll also study Decatur’s population projections and how we can increase demographic diversity to ensure Decatur is an inclusive, lifelong community
“Lastly,” she wrote, “connectivity between Decatur’s residential neighborhoods, commercial districts, schools and parks is an ongoing discussion [along with prioritizing] traffic-calming efforts, bike lanes and pedestrian improvements.”
The next public input session is April 20. The planning staff will compile public comments and produce a draft document by late June/early July, with the city commission expected take action on the plan’s final version in October.
