Last month, the Lake Lanier Association successfully coordinated the removal of the "Deadman's Houseboat," an abandoned vessel that had languished near the lake's shore for months.
Now the group has its sights set on another deserted eyesore: the simply named "Houseboat 44."
LLA executive director Joanna Cloud announced this week that the boat — which has languished near lake marker 44 since "the first of the year," collecting graffiti along the way — will finally be removed Friday. Cloud's group is coordinating efforts (and finances) with Hall County and the Department of Natural Resources to get the boat hauled away.
"While the vessel is beached on the shoreline right now since our lake is down five feet below full pool, it does not have floating integrity and is at risk for sinking when lake levels are higher," Cloud said in a news release. "The vessel is currently situated in a public park area and ... poses a safety concern for other criminal activitiy."
How and why the boat was abandoned was unclear.
The so-called "Deadman's Houseboat" was pulled from the lake on July 21 after having languished near Sunrise Cove Marina since October, when "the vessel owner was found deceased in the immediate area."
