Hundreds of dead fish found in Peachtree City’s Lake McIntosh this week are not the result of a recent sewage spill, according to the Fayette County Water System.
System employees analyzed water samples from the lake on Tuesday and Wednesday, and found the dissolved oxygen levels within normal range. The state Department of Natural Resources agreed with the findings.
The county said the dead fish were the result of “normal spring spawning and lake stratification.” Fayette is still not using Lake McIntosh to draw drinking water, following a sewer pipe rupture on March 8 that discharged 9,000 gallons of wastewater into a lake tributary.
