Court dismisses Clayton State discrimination claim

The federal appeals court in Atlanta has upheld the dismissal of a race discrimination lawsuit against Clayton State University by a former continuing education instructor who taught computer-related classes.

Karen Maddox-Jones, who is African-American, filed suit against the state university system in 2008 after Clayton State ended her employment there. Because Maddox-Jones could not show that persons outside her protected class were shown more favorable treatment, she could not prove her case, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decided.
