Stone Mountain hiring seasonal workers
Stone Mountain Park plans to hire nearly 300 seasonal employees for winter events.
The hiring team seeks Snow Mountain attendants, merchandisers, lift operators, guest relations staff, food service personnel, and cleaning crews for daytime and evening shifts. Applications must be completed online. Training is set to start soon.

Johns Creek center hosts health event
Johns Creek’s active adult center will host a free geriatric health and wellness event from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10 at Park Place at Newtown School, 3125 Old Alabama Road. Sheriff’s office honored for safety programs
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office won statewide kudos from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. The agency named Forsyth to 1st place in the 201 to 500 officer category in the 2014 Governor’s Challenge Awards. The awards honor departments with outstanding achievements in highway safety enforcement and education. The department also snared a motorcycle safety award.

Forsyth approves bond payback resolution
The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners wants to lessen the property tax burden resulting if the county’s up-to $200 million transportation bond issue is approved by voters Nov. 4. Commissioners OKd a nonbinding resolution asking that a future board scheduling a SPLOST 8 vote use the first $100 million of that sales tax money to pay back the bond, reducing the tab for property taxpayers. A final vote is expected at the Commission’s Oct. 2 meeting. The bond proposal includes an array of projects, among them some significant upgrades to Ga. 400.

Fall break camp Oct. 6-10
The Henry County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a day camp Oct. 6-10, which is fall break for Henry County schools. Hours are 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. and camp is for ages 6-12. Locations are Fairview Recreation Center, Heritage Park, J.P. Moseley Recreation Center, Locust Grove Recreation Center and Nash Farm Park. Paramedic program earns accreditation
The Henry County Fire Department has been awarded national recognition with initial accreditation from the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), for its EMT to Paramedic Training Program. Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services is the only other department in the state to receive this recognition, according to county officials. Information: www.henrycounty-ga.org.
