Police say an Atlanta woman received nearly $10,000 from a Section 8 government program designed to pay for her utilities. But she didn't pay the bill.

Avis Larose Daniels was charged with theft by conversion, theft of services and interference with a public utility. She was arrested at her home at 3523 Parc Circle, in Atlanta Monday.

Through the Section 8 program, Daniels received $209 a month for 30 months, totaling $6,270 to pay for utilities, according to warrants. In addition, she received $3,093.88 from December 2008 through June 2011, for Snapping Shoals gas service for which she failed to pay. Daniels is accused of removing a security clip and bypassing the gas meter at her home.

She is in custody at the DeKalb County Jail. Her bond was set for $500 during a court appearance Monday.
