A Roswell man in his late twenties is facing battery charges after police say he attacked a neighbor about twice his age for allowing his dog to defecate on his property.

Nick Gyger allegedly hit the dog owner in a yard off of Hembree Park Terrace, Channel 2 Action News reports.

Officer Lisa Holland said Gyger confronted the man and attacked him when he walked away.

“He attacked him, knocked him to the ground and continued to kick him and hit him while he was down,” Holland said.

But Gyger claims the man came at him, and he reacted in self-defense.

“I was in the wrong, too. I didn’t have to hit him twice,” he told Channel 2. “I could have hit him once and stopped it.”

Gyger, who spent Tuesday night in jail, plans to fight the charges in court, according to Channel 2.
